Patient Group Mentoring programme in the African region

This regional programme is part of the broader Patient Group Mentoring Programme.

Based on the success from the Patient Group Mentoring programme in the Asia Pacific and Eastern Mediterranean regions, in 2024 UICC decided to extend the Programme to Africa with the engagement of five patient groups organisations.

  • Humanity at Heart International Association – Cameroon 
  • Kilele Health Association – Kenya
  • Action Against Cancer Association – Lesotho
  • Nest of Hope – Nigeria
  • Warriors with a Purpose – South Africa
  • Teal Sisters Foundation – Zambia

Activities planned

Tailored assistance based on a needs assessment to maximise access to UICC capacity building opportunities and other stakeholders' opportunities for patient engagement.

  • Virtual meetings between the patient groups to encourage collaboration and peer to peer exchanges.

  • Access to the Master course on Patient Engagement, Virtual Dialogues and other relevant opportunities.

  • Possibility to be part of the Project ECHO on Breast Cancer for interested patient groups.

  • Dedicated online discussions with external experts on identified common needs.

Launched in 2018, the Patient Group Mentoring programme is a tailored mentorship programme dedicated to building capacity of a representative cohort of patient groups at the regional level.

Launched in 2018 as a pilot initiative to respond to a voiced need in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the programme aims to ensure that patient groups have the knowledge, capacity and connections to make a difference in their own health systems and beyond.
